- Bid on your own
little piece of Depraved History
In
an apparent violation of their own
published standards, E-Bay has found it acceptable to
sell imprinted merchandise bearing the image of none other
than the Butcher of La Cabaña himself, the infamous
ché guevara.
I would never advocate in
a free society such as ours that E-Bay inhibit the ability
of other Americans to make their money, however vile their
method. But I do advocate and insist that E-Bay adhere to
their own
guidelines and remove these offensive items from their
website. One thing is to sell historical materials that have
some historic or educational value, however, I fail to see
the historical and educational value in a
ché tri-fold wallet.
Artie and Omar from
Cubanazos.com have
started a petition to insist that E-Bay remove these items
and comply with their own principles. You can access and
sign the petition
HERE.
I know, I know… we are
opening the door to criticism and the accusation that we are
practicing censorship the same way the communist regime in
Cuba does. Actually, we are only asking E-Bay to do what
they themselves say should be done with offensive items:
they must be removed from the site.
Last time I was on E-Bay,
I could not find any
removable flask belt buckles with Hitler’s portrait on
it. There is one with ché’s image though. I am sure that
E-Bay rejects on a daily basis countless vendors trying to
hock their Hitler paraphernalia. We are just asking E-Bay to
do the same with another killer of the innocent.
As the great philosopher,
Billie Jean said in “The Legend of Billie Jean”; “fair is
fair.”
