- Before Cane and the Duque Family, there was Hialeah and the Peña Family

This past week I have been watching the comments flying around the blogosphere regarding the new CBS drama Cane. The show is supposed to be about a Cuban-American family, but personally I found it lacking on several levels. I could not put my finger on exactly what it was that bothered me about the show until I saw this clip—along with a few others—of the Peña family.

Honesty.

That’s it: Honesty. Que Pasa USA managed to capture the humor and the essence of the Cuban exile existence in America without all the pomp and circumstance. No glitzy sets, bikini-clad models in high-heels, exotic locations, numerous subplots or industrial empires—just plain honesty.

Now I know what Cane is missing.
